Scorpio season text with florals

As Libra Season ends, so too does the gust of fresh air that ushers the beginning of fall. In Scorpio Season, we are somewhat stagnant in the stage of transformation, an uncomfortable place for many to be. The days grow shorter, the temperatures begin to harshen, and the foliage inches closer to death and decay. There’s something poetic about the fixed nature of Scorpio, the sign of transformation—a dichotomy between sacrifice and surrender that work in tandem to produce the necessary results. It’s fitting to come after Libra Season, where we’ve learned to evaluate opposing sides and accepted that much of life is a balance. Yet, this Scorpio Season brings with it the loaded question: “Are you willing to risk your comfort to find out the truth?” The only correct answer being: “Yes, and I’m ready.”

In the early hours of October 23rd, Venus enters Scorpio, shortly followed by the Sun. This Scorpio Season begins with the Moon in Libra, signaling that we will need to know how to find equilibrium for the journey ahead. On the same day, Saturn will finally station direct in Aquarius, freeing us from some of the restrictions we’ve been forced to re-acquaint ourselves with during its retrograde period. In this way, we are invited to explore the depths unfettered. Whereas Scorpio Season with Saturn retrograde may have forced us to free dive, relying only on our breathy limitations, we are now equipped with an oxygen tank and the ability to dive deeper—especially because Mars will soon station retrograde in Gemini, the sign that rules the lungs. This will be a period of recalculating our strategy. We won’t forge ahead but rather sink deeper into the depths and retrace our steps. Contrary to Mars’ nature, this may bring a period of slowing down.

The beginning of Scorpio Season is filled with themes of venturing into the unknown. A mere two days in, we are in the dark of the New Moon. Not just a regular New Moon, but a Solar Eclipse. The Sun and Moon meet at 2º Scorpio on October 25th, also joined by Venus. There is a tenderness here. There is also fixation, passion, and the signature touch of scorpionic darkness. Yet this lunation is led by Mars, who is in Gemini, a day before its trine to Mercury in Libra. Something is spoken into existence, called forth like a whisper that travels through the trees in the wind. And while a New Moon is beautiful for manifesting, for using our voice to claim our desires, many don’t practice under the energy of eclipses. (Note: A ‘personal practice’ is personal for a reason, so do as you feel called. I, for one, consider Eclipse Season a time when the luminaries are practicing their own magic, creating their own spells to realign paths and I feel called not to interfere.) So while the Sun, Moon, and Venus are untouched by aspects from the other planets, the leader of this lunation is challenged by a square from Neptune in Pisces. Neptune, however, is still retrograde, providing clarity rather than a quagmire. Almost as if to say: Before you dive, double-check the oxygen tanks and equipment.

And just like that, in the days following the Solar Eclipse, Jupiter retrograde re-enters Pisces, Mercury enters Scorpio, and Mars stations retrograde. Five planets are in water signs—the Sun, Mercury, and Venus in Scorpio, and Neptune and Jupiter in Pisces. If the water wasn’t already pulling at your ankles, it should be by now—a call to surrender to the tides and the emotional waters of truth. There is a quietness between October 30th and November 7th when Venus in Scorpio squares Saturn in Aquarius. We’ve been exploring the shallower waters, but the call to submerge deeper is here.

On November 8th, we descend further into the dark of the waters as the Full Moon in Taurus shines light from above—a Lunar Eclipse at 16º Taurus. And while during the last eclipse, the luminaries were untouched save for Venus’ presence, this lunation is quite different. The Sun is conjunct Mercury in Scorpio as they both oppose the Moon conjunct Uranus in Taurus. Thus, Venus leads this lunation. She is near the Sun and Mercury in Scorpio, opposed by the Moon and Uranus in her ruling sign of Taurus. Venus is also challenged by a square from Saturn in Aquarius. At this lunation, there is a sense of feeling out of place. Yet Venus is supported by a trine from Neptune in Pisces. This is a reminder that there is healing power in the waters of discomfort if only we can surrender to the feelings that rise in us as we sink deeper into the depths of our truths. The release point for this lunation is in Leo, reminding us to be confident and fearless in the pursuit of radical self-acceptance and love. And while the planets in the fixed signs of Scorpio, Taurus, and Aquarius dance around each other in challenging aspects around this eclipse, it’s not long before the waves break and the waters turn from choppy to calm. Squares and oppositions will soon become supportive trines between the water signs, reminding us to sacrifice our comfort momentarily for the chance at unbridled opportunity. Following the eclipse on November 8th, we will experience beautiful trines from the Sun, Venus, and Mercury in Scorpio to Neptune and Jupiter in Pisces between November 10th through November 16th. They will also receive support from Pluto in Capricorn. The deeper we dive into our depths and allow emotions to flow, the more we uncover. Use this time to feel your way through your surroundings. Remember: the deeper you dive, the less light there may be.

Inspiration can strike at any time, and often when we are so in tune with ourselves and our emotions that we trust our intuition to bring us what we need to know. After exploring the depths, something may spark within you by November 16th and 17th when Venus and Mercury enter Sagittarius. The waters around you may start to feel frigid as you look back up toward the light of the surface. It’s time to ascend, but don’t rush, as one of the most dangerous mistakes you can make while diving is ascending too quickly. This reminder is felt as Mars retrograde in Gemini squares Neptune retrograde in Pisces on November 19th. Both caution us from moving too fast or falling prey to the illusion of something that seems too good to be true. The surface is further than it appears, and you can’t skip the journey from sheer excitement alone. In the final days of Scorpio Season, the Sun in Scorpio forms a trine to Jupiter in Pisces. It’s almost like a moment where you stop for a second to admit you were hoping to have seen something breathtakingly beautiful. And just in time… that glimmer of hope and delight you were hoping for swims right past you—shining, shimmering, splendid. Mercury and Venus meet in Sagittarius the day just before Sagittarius Season begins, giving way to a specific type of focus in our hearts. When these two planets meet in this sign, there’s very much a “say what you mean, mean what you say” energy. You breach the surface, and there is peace. But more than that, there is truth, faith, and a deeper understanding of purpose.
